Description |
Accordion player Thelma Ramsey with four children during the studio recording of an episode of 'School Around the Corner', broadcast by Telefís Éireann on 2 December 1962. Four children are gathered around Ramsey who provided the musical accompaniment for the programme. A television camera is partly visible on the right. 'School Around the Corner' was presented by teacher and broadcaster Paddy Crosbie (standing in the background) and produced by writer James Plunkett. In addition to presenting the show, Paddy Crosbie was the originator and writer of 'School Around the Corner'. The show was first broadcast by Radio Éireann in 1954, and ran continuously until 1961 when it was transferred to Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television). It was the first Telefís Éireann programme to be pre-recorded in 1961; the first episode was broadcast on 2 January 1962. The programme continued until 1966 on RTÉ Television before returning to RTÉ Radio for another year. It was again revived on radio in 1973 and ran on RTÉ Television from 1990-1994. An RTÉ Guide article outlining the programme's history was published on 1 June 1973. |
