Description |
Half-length shot of Arthur Scargill, President of Britian's National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), talking to Gay Bryne on RTE television's 'The Late Late Show', in Studio 1 on 20 April 1985. He is looking at Byrne (back to camera) as he talks, with one hand raised slightly. Adrian Cronin and Gay Byrne produced this edition of 'The Late Late'. Arthur Scargill led miners in an unsuccessful strike against pit closures between 1984 and 1985. He served as President of the NUM from 1981-2000, becoming Honorary President in 2002. He founded the Socialist Labour Party in 1996 and is currently General Secretary of that party. |
