Description |
Three male inhabitants of Gola Island, off the coast of County Donegal, in October 1969. All three are leaning against a boulder at the top of a hill. They are wearing tweed caps. Cottages, one without a roof, are visible in the background as is the sea. This still was taken during the filming of the RTE documentary 'Terminus', about the decline and depopulation of the island. 'Terminus' was first broadcast by RTE television on 30 January 1970 with Odran Walsh producing. RTE also commissioned a book in conjunction with this film entitled 'Gola: The Life and Last Days of an Island Community', by FHA Aalen and H Brody. Fr James McDyer, parish priest of Glencolumbkille, County Donegal, reviewed the book for the RTE Guide of 23 January 1970. Odran Walsh also wrote a brief article on Gola for this same edition of the Guide. |
