Description |
Gardai protect the British embassy on Dublin's Merrion Square, during demonstrations against the British government following Bloody Sunday, on 31 January 1972. About twenty to thirty gardai are standing outside the embassy; two mock coffins with the words "Bloody Sunday" and "13" written on them are propped against the embassy door. The embassy's windows are boarded-up and there are scorch marks visible. The British embassy was destroyed by fire on 2 February 1972 following a series of protests. Thirteen civil rights marchers had been shot dead by British soldiers in Derry on 30 January 1972. |
