A view of the LUAS tram bridge at Dundrum village, County Dublin on 15 October 2003. This shot was taken from Churchtown Road. Traffic can be seen passing under the bridge in the background. This bridge was formally named the William Dargan Bridge on 20 July 2004, after the Irish railway engineer. It is a cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 108.5 metres; the pylon, which can be seen in this shot, is around 50 metres in height. It was designed by engineers Roughan and O'Donovan. LUAS (the Irish word for speed) is Dublin's public transport tram system. It runs on two separate tramlines, the Green Line and the Red Line. The Green Line (which opened on 30 June 2004) connects Sandyford to St Stephen's Green in the city centre. The Red Line (which opened on 28 September 2004) connects Tallaght to Connolly Station. The William Dargan Bridge at Dundrum is on the Green Line. |
