|Caption||Children playing 'beds' on Dublin's Sheriff Street (1973)|
|Programme||Inner City Island|
A view of children playing 'beds' on Sheriff Street, in Dublin's north inner city, in March 1973. A large group of children, all girls, are gathered around in a semi-circle watching two girls take their turn. Sheriff Street flats are partly visible in the background. 'Beds' was played on a series of numbered boxes chalked onto the pavement; the game involved pushing a shoe polish tin around these boxes while hopping on one leg. A young girl on the left of shot is holding up her shoe polish tin to the camera.
Stills from this shoot were used to illustrate an RTÉ Guide article, published on 30 March 1973, about the RTÉ Radio documentary 'Inner City Island'. Presented by Anne Leonard and produced by Seán Mac Réamoinn, this programme focused on the daily lives of people from Sheriff Street. It was broadcast on 1 April 1973, as part of a regular series of Sunday night radio documentaries.
