Description |
Composer Paul Lyttle poses with singer Tina (Philomena Quinn), after their win in the 1974 National Song Contest in RTÉ Television's Studio 1, on 10 February that year. Lyttle was the first showband performer to write a winning song, 'Cross Your Heart'. The RTÉ Guide published an article on his success, together with the lyrics of his winning song, in its edition of 15 February 1974. The 1974 contest differed from other years in that one singer, Tina, sang all eight competing songs and the winner was chosen by viewers' postal votes. Tina performed all eight songs on RTÉ Television's 'The Likes of Mike' on 2 February 1974, while the contest itself was broadcast as part of the final programme in the series on 10 February 1974. The RTÉ Guide of 1 February 1974 gave full details on all eight songs, with further coverage of the contest appearing in the following week's Guide. |
