Pope John Paul II blesses the crowd from his popemobile, a specially adapted truck, during his visit to St Patrick's College, Maynooth, County Kildare, on 1 October 1979. An unidentified bishop is standing behind him in the foreground, while Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich is in the background but is not clearly visible in this shot. While at Maynooth the Pope blessed the foundation stone of the new library named in his honour. Pope John Paul II spent three days in Ireland from 29 September to 1 October 1979. |
