Description   A close-up of Benedictine monk Fr Francis McHenry's hands, at the potter's wheel in the workshop at Glenstal Abbey, County Limerick in February 1980. He is making a bowl. Stills from this shoot were used to publicise two RTÉ programmes, on both television and radio, marking the 1500th anniversary of the birth of St Benedict. RTÉ Radio broadcast the six-part series 'The Mountains Have Become Torches' from 26 February 1980 - this series also focused on the Cistercian order. The RTÉ Guide of 22 February 1980 published a full-page article about the Glenstal Benedictines, which used several stills from this shoot.

RTÉ Television broadcast 'The Benedictines in Ireland in Context', on 25 November 1980 as part of the 'Insight' documentary series. The programme was made by Fr Romuald Dodd and combined a documentary film with a studio discussion on the Benedictines, hosted by broadcaster Andy O'Mahony. Stills from this shoot were published in the accompanying RTÉ Guide article on 21 November 1980.

Glenstal Abbey is a Benedictine monastery which comprises a 500-acre estate surrounding a castle built in the Norman style. The monks there run a boarding school for boys, a farm, and a guest house on the premises. The Benedictine monks first came to Glenstal in 1927.
