A routine in progress during the final of the John Player 'Tops of the Town' amateur talent contest, in Dublin's Gaiety Theatre on 1 June 1980. Several people are on stage, holding cards on which the names of Irish counties have been printed. This talent contest featured competing Irish companies - the 1980 final was contested by Irish Distillers Variety Group and Waterford Banks and Finance. Stills from this shoot were published in the RTÉ Guide of 13 June 1980 in a brief report on the aftermath of the contest. The RTÉ Guide of 30 May 1980 had featured a front cover article previewing it. RTÉ Television broadcast the contest live. It was produced by Noel D Greene. The 1980 competition was won by Irish Distillers. |
