Description |
UCD academic Augustine Martin during the filming of scenes from Shakespeare's 'Richard II', for RTÉ Television's educational programming 'Telefís Scoile', in Studio 1 in April 1971. These scenes were introduced by Martin, and were first broadcast on 3 May and repeated on 13 May 1971. Augustine Martin was Professor of Anglo-Irish Literature at University College Dublin from 1979 until his death. He served as an independent senator for the National University of Ireland from 1973 to 1981. He edited the English school textbooks 'Soundings' and 'Exploring English', and was also involved in a number of RTÉ's 'Telefís Scoile' programmes. 'Telefís Scoile' comprised several different series of programmes on subjects studied by secondary school students at Junior (Intermediate/Junior Certificate) and Senior (Leaving Certificate) levels. It was initiated by RTÉ in 1964 in association with the Department of Education. |
