'Cancer' was the first part of a trilogy of television plays written by Eugene McCabe entitled 'Victims'. McCabe based 'Cancer' on a story originally published in 'The Dublin Magazine'. It was first broadcast by RTÉ on 3 October 1973 and was the first television drama RTÉ filmed on location and in colour. It won an award for best script at the Prague International Television Festival.
