The Irish delegation backstage at the moment victory was announced in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, in Dublin's Point Theatre on 30 April that year. Seated from left to right are; RTÉ producer Niall Mathews, singers/musicians Charlie McGettigan and Paul Harrington and RTÉ's Assistant Director of Television Programmes David Blake Knox. Shay Healy, the composer of Ireland's 1980 winning entry 'What's Another Year?' is first left in the back row. Harrington and McGettigan won the contest with 'Rock 'n' Roll Kids', the third of three consecutive wins for Ireland. The contest was broadcast live on RTÉ Television on 30 April 1994. The RTÉ staff magazine 'Access' featured a behind-the-scenes report on Eurovision in its editions of 21 April and 12 May 1994. |
