Description |
Two Irish Army soldiers during the 1995 National Day of Commemoration, held in the courtyard of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin, on 9 July that year. One is saluting while another is holding a sword aloft. The dignitaries standing in the front row, from left to right, are; Fianna Fáil politician Mary O'Rourke, Chief Justice Liam Hamilton, former Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald, TK Whitaker, Donal Toolan (in wheelchair), Brendan Howlin of Fine Gael, Nora Owen of Fine Gael and President Mary Robinson (in red). The National Day of Commemoration honours Irishmen and Irishwomen who have died in past wars or on service with the United Nations. The ceremony was broadcast live on RTÉ 1 Television. |
