The winner of the 36th Eurovision Song Contest, Swedish pop singer Carola, holds the trophy aloft as she celebrates on stage at Studio 15 di Cinecittà in Rome, Italy, on 4 May 1991. She is surrounded by her backing singers and dancers, together with conductor Anders Berglund (first left, wearing a bow-tie) and composer/lyricist Stephan Berg (wearing a blue tie).
Carola's winning song, 'Fångad av en stormvind' ('Captured by a Lovestorm'), scored a total of 146 points and initially tied with France for first place, but was declared the winner because Sweden received a greater number of 10-point scores.
RTÉ Television and RTÉ Radio both broadcast the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest live. The RTÉ Guide previewed it on 3 May 1991.
