A wide shot of panellists during RTÉ Television coverage of the results of the 1989 general election, in Studio 5 on 16 June 1989. From left to right; unidentified (possibly Fianna Fáil TD Liam Lawlor but this is unconfirmed), Pat Rabbitte (Workers' Party), Barry Desmond (Labour), John Bruton (Fine Gael), An Taoiseach Charles Haughey and programme presenter Brian Farrell. Camera operators can be seen on the right of shot. The election had been held on 15 June 1989 and returned a Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition government. RTÉ Television and Radio provided extensive results coverage of this election which was previewed in the RTÉ Guide on 9 June 1989. The RTÉ staff magazine 'Access' published follow-up articles giving details of the more technical production elements of the coverage in its editions of 22 June and 20 July 1989. |
