Description |
Fianna Fáil Taoiseach Jack Lynch working at his office desk circa 1966. He is writing and smoking his pipe. This still was taken for possible use in RTÉ News bulletins. Jack Lynch served as a Fianna Fáil TD for the borough constituency of Cork from 1948-69, for Cork City North-West (1969-77) and for Cork City (1977-79). He served as Minister for Education (1957-9), Minister for Industry and Commerce (1959-65) and Minister for Finance (1965-6) becoming Taoiseach in 1966. He was Taoiseach from 1966-1973 and 1977-79. Lynch was also an accomplished sportsman, winning four GAA All-Ireland hurling medals in succession from 1941-44, a football medal in 1945 and a further hurling medal in 1946. |
