Description |
Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats backstage during the 'Self Aid' concert in aid of Ireland's unemployed, in the RDS, Dublin, on 17 May 1986. From left to right; Bob Geldof, Garry Roberts, Johnnie Fingers, Simon Crowe and Pete Briquette. The band's guitarist Gerry Cott does not appear to have played at Self Aid. The RTÉ Guide previewed the concert on 16 May 1986. 'Self Aid' was at that time the largest live music event ever staged in Ireland; fourteen hours of music from Irish artists, including The Boomtown Rats, was broadcast live by RTÉ Television from the RDS. The public were invited to pledge jobs and money to a job creation fund. |
