RTÉ sports commentator Michael O'Hehir playing football with his 4-year-old daughter Ann, in the garden of their Dublin home in September 1964. A still from this shoot was used on the front cover of the RTV (RTÉ) Guide on 25 September 1964, to publicise Telefís Éireann and Radio Éireann (RTÉ Television and RTÉ Radio) coverage of that year's GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) All-Ireland football final. Michael O'Hehir started his career as a radio commentator in 1938. He was appointed RTÉ's first Head of Sports Programmes in 1961 at the establishment of Telefís Éireann, a position he held until 1972 when he returned to being a freelance journalist. |
