Description |
Broadcasters on the picket line during an RTÉ strike, on the Stillorgan dual carriageway outside RTÉ in Donnybrook, Dublin, in January/February 1992. From left to right; RTÉ Radio producer Willie O'Reilly (face obscured) and broadcasters John Creedon and Gerry Ryan. Around 1600 RTÉ staff members from three unions (SIPTU, NUJ and ETU) had gone on strike over staffing levels at the station. The dispute began on 21 January after two-person camera crews were introduced without the agreement of SIPTU; it ended on 17 February 1992 after four weeks of industrial action. The RTÉ staff magazine 'Access' published an extensive article on the dispute and its resolution in March 1992. |
