Irish bass-baritone singer William Young and the chorus from Our Lady's Choral Society, in a scene from the RTÉ Television production 'Messiah, during filming in Studio 1 in 1985. The production was first broadcast on 22 December 1985. This staging of Handel's oratorio was one of a number of productions to celebrate European Music Year and to mark the 300th anniversary of Handels's birth. The text was compiled from the old and new testaments by Charles Jennens. The production won the Prague D'or Award 1986 in its category for 'best television interpretation of a concert work'. It also won the 'Sunday Tribune' Arts Award for music for 1985. |
