Description |
An RTÉ production crew film a scene from the Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television) play 'The Bicycle Man', by the banks of Loughlinstown River in Loughlinstown, County Dublin, in early 1966. Irish actor Martin Dempsey as The Bicycle Man is in the foreground; producer/director Christopher Fitz-Simon is behind him (holding a folder). 'The Bicycle Man' was the first of four specially commissioned plays set in the years leading up to Easter 1916, made to mark the 50th anniversary of the Rising. All four were written by Bryan MacMahon and were aimed at young people - children featured in prominent roles. 'The Bicycle Man' was broadcast on 3 April 1966. The RTV (RTÉ) Guide published an article by Bryan MacMahon on his memories of 1916, and his experience of writing some of the scripts for RTÉ Television and Radio that commemorated it, on 8 April 1966. A Guide article previewing all four plays was published on 1 April 1966. |
