Queen Elizabeth II and President of Ireland Mary McAleese in front of the Children of Lir sculpture in the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square, Dublin city, on the first day of the royal visit on 17 May 2011. The Queen has just laid a wreath at this monument; the Garden of Remembrance is dedicated to those who have died in the cause of Irish freedom. Alan Shatter, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence and Lieutenant General Seán McCann, the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, are standing behind them. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited Ireland from 17-20 May 2011. |
