Description   12-year-old Martin Nolan sings 'Somewhere the Sun is Shining' during the recording of an episode of 'The School Around the Corner', probably in Collins Barracks, Cork city, on 9 November or 9 December 1962. This episode, one of two programmes recorded on that day, was broadcast by Telefís Éireann (now RTÉ Television) on 23 December 1962. Paddy Crosbie presented 'School Around the Corner'; the producer was writer James Plunkett.

In addition to presenting the show, Paddy Crosbie was the originator and writer of 'School Around the Corner'. The show was first broadcast by Radio Éireann in 1954, and ran continuously until 1961 when it was transferred to Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television). It was the first Telefís Éireann programme to be pre-recorded in 1961; the first episode was broadcast on 2 January 1962. The programme continued until 1966 on RTÉ Television before returning to RTÉ Radio for another year. It was again revived on radio in 1973 and ran on RTÉ Television from 1990-1994. An RTÉ Guide article outlining the programme's history was published on 1 June 1973.

In November 2012 RTÉ Radio 1's 'The John Murray Show' attempted to trace the children who appeared in the 1962 programme from Cork. Martin Nolan has yet to be found.
