|Caption||RTÉ 2fm advertising hoarding (1992)|
An RTÉ 2fm advertising billboard promoting broadcaster/DJ Larry Gogan, possibly near Bolton Street, Dublin city, in September 1992. The poster has been defaced by supporters of Sinn Féin member Larry O'Toole with the words 'End RTÉ censorship'.
This was a reference to RTÉ's refusal to broadcast an interview with Larry O'Toole, a trade union activist, concerning striking Gateaux workers in 1990, on the grounds that it would violate Section 31 of the Broadcasting Act prohibiting the broadcast of interviews with Sinn Féin members. O'Toole successfully challenged RTÉ's interpretation of Section 31 in the courts in 1992.
