The winners of the15th Gold Harp Festival awards with Professor Colm Ó hEocha of UCG (University College Galway), at the presentation in the Great Southern Hotel, Galway city, on 29 May 1981. An extensive report on the 1981 festival was published in RTÉ's staff magazine 'Access' on 25 June 1981.
The aim of the Golden Harp Festival was to promote international exchanges of folk music and folklore programmes and to encourage interest in traditional cultures among the nations represented through the associated competition. It was organised by RTÉ under the auspices of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union).
