A view of the giant Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank, Manchester, England in 1969. A second, smaller telescope is also visible. The bowls of both telescopes are pointing directly upwards. A field occupies the foreground of this shot. Jodrell Bank is a radio telescope; it was finished in 1957 and is one of the largest in the world.
This still was taken for use in RTE television's 'Science at the Seventies', an informal look at modern scientific discovery. The first programme was broadcast on 4 November 1969. It was produced by Pat Baker.
