|Caption||Crowds await JFK on O'Connell Street, Dublin (1963)|
|Programme||President Kennedy in Ireland|
Crowds on Dublin's O'Connell Street await the motorcade of US President John F Kennedy, on the first day of his four-day visit to Ireland on 26 June 1963. Nelson's Pillar is partly visible in the right background, while Clery's department store can be seen opposite. American flags are hanging from Clery's and other business premises on the street. D'Olier Street is just visible in the background.
Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television) provided extensive coverage of the President's visit; a feature on the coverage appeared in the RTV Guide of 21 June 1963. Kennedy was assassinated just five months after this picture was taken.
