Description   Broadcaster Gay Byrne (left) interviews Irish journalist and author Patrick Cosgrave on RTE Television's 'The Late Late Show', in a special London edition of the programme broadcast from studios in Wandsworth, South London, on 15 March 1980. The RTÉ Guide of 4 April 1980 published a one-page article about this edition of the programme; stills from this shoot accompanied the piece.

Born and educated in Dublin, Patrick Cosgrave became political editor of 'The Spectator' in 1971. He was an early supporter of Margaret Thatcher, and became her special advisor in 1975. He was Thatcher's chief speech writer from 1976 until 1979, when he became a freelance writer. He published several books including a biographer of Thatcher in 1978 - 'Margaret Thatcher: A Tory and her Party'.
