    Order imageORDER

Image ref no   0504/058
Caption   Man injured in Civil War (1922)
Description   Two St John's Ambulance Brigade men tend to an injured man lying on a stretcher in the schoolyard of the Central Model School on Marlborough Street, Dublin, in 1922. The ambulanceman on the right is possibly Mr Gully. There is a small crowd looking on. Note the boy in the foreground has bare feet. They may have entered the schoolyard through the school's back entrance which was located on Deverell Place.

The people in this shot are probably tenement evacuees from either Upper Gloucester Street (subsequently renamed Sean MacDermott Street) or Upper Tyrone Street (later Waterford Street). This evacuation took place because of the artillery barrage and sniper fire occurring in nearby O'Connell Street; additionally there were fears that irregular forces would break out into the surrounding streets.
