An interior view of The Casino in Marino, Dublin, photographed for the RTÉ Television documentary series 'A Sense of Excellence' in September 1979. A man and woman are standing on the left; the house was undergoing renovation at the time. This house was designed by William Chambers for James Caulfied, the Earl of Charlemont. It is built in the neo-classical style and was completed in 1773.
The first episode in this four-part series about Ireland's man-made cultural heritage was broadcast on 23 April 1980. The Casino in Marino featured in the episode 'What Have They Done To My Island?', broadcast on 30 April. An RTÉ Guide preview of the entire series was published on 18 April 1980.
