RTE broadcaster and continuity announcer Kathleen Watkins, with five-year-old Berrnard Donnelly and his ten-year-old sister Mary, in late 1963. Watkins is kneeling on the ground beside the children, about to put a record on an old-fashioned player, as Mary looks on. Bernard's eyes are closed. There are more records scattered on the floor around them. This shot was taken to publicise the radio programmes 'Records I Like', a programme for children first broadcast on 6 November 1963, and 'Date with Kate' a programme of classical music broadcast some weeks later. A short feature on both programmes appeared in the RTV Guide of 1 November 1963.
Kathleen Watkins was one of RTE's first continuity announcers; she joined the station in 1962 along with fellow announcers Marie O'Sullivan and Nuala Donnelly. Kathleen Watkins is also well-known as a harpist and is married to Gay Byrne.
