Description   French actor Jean Claude Drouot as General Humbert, in a scene from the RTÉ/FR3 Television drama 'The Year of the French', during filming in Wilson's Hospital in Mullingar, County Westmeath on 26 June 1981.

'The Year of the French' was a six-part drama based on the events of 1798. It was a co-production with the French television station FR 3, in association with Britain's Channel 4, and was adapted by Eugene McCabe from the novel by Thomas Flanagan. It featured 120 Irish, French and English actors as well as hundreds more extras. Michael Garvey was the director. The first episode was broadcast on 18 November 1982; the RTÉ Guide featured an extensive article on the series in its edition of 12 November 1982.
