Description   Mourners at the funeral of Cathal Brugha outside Berkeley Road Carmelite Church, Dublin city, on 10 July 1922. From left to right; Pierce O'Mahony, John Joseph (JJ) O'Kelly (Sceilg), Mary MacSwiney and Brian O'Higgins.

Cathal Brugha died on 7 July in the Civil War, from wounds sustained during fighting in O'Connell Street on 5 July 1922. He was Chief of Staff of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) from 1917-1919 and voted against the Anglo-Irish Treaty in January 1922.
