An exterior view of the rear entrance to Áras an Uachtaráin in Dublin's Phoenix Park, the residence of the President of Ireland, taken for the RTÉ Television series 'Private View' on 9 April 1976. 'Private View' featured tours of paintings, sculpture and other art objects held in various buildings throughout Ireland. The programme featuring the Áras was first broadcast on 31 October 1976; the RTÉ Guide preview was published on 29 October 1976.
Áras an Uachtaráin was built in 1751 by Park Ranger Nathaniel Clements. It was the residence of the Viceroys in Ireland from 1782 to 1922, and the Governer General from 1922 to 1938, when it became the official residence of the President.
