Montague, John (1929 -)
Irish poet John Montague during the filming of the RTÉ Television documentary 'John Montague - Rough Fields' in May 1998. This shot may have been taken in Poetry Ireland's premises but this is unconfirmed.
'John Montague - Rough Fields' was filmed in County Tyrone where Montague grew up, in Ballydehob, County Cork, where he lived and on Dublin's canal banks. It was first broadcast on 2 September 1998, under the aegis of the RTÉ Television books programme 'Undercover'. The programme was very briefly previewed in the RTÉ Guide on 28 August 1998.
John Montague was born in New York and spent his childhood there and in County Tyrone. He published several collections of poetry including 'The Rough Field' (1972) and 'A Slow Dance' (1975). He lectured in English at University College Cork for several years.
