Description |
An RTÉ crew film a scene from the Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television) drama series 'Insurrection', on Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin city, in early 1966. Producer/director Michael Garvey is standing second from the left on the roof of the Mobile Film Unit van; the remaining crew members are unidentified. They were filming a scene in which soldiers from the British Lancers charged the GPO. The business premises visible in the background are tobacconists John Purcell at number 68 and Funland amusment arcade at 67. The entrance to Northern Bank at number 66 can be seen on the right. This episode was first broadcast on 11 April 1966. 'Insurrection' was an eight-part dramatised reconstruction of the events of Easter Week 1916, shown to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising. The series was shown on eight consecutive nights on Telefís Éireann from 10-17 April 1966. The RTV (RTÉ) Guide extensively previewed the series in a special anniversary edition published on 8 April 1966. |
