|Caption||Men working on railway line at Dún Laoghaire (1968)|
A high shot of men working on a railway line just outside Dún Laoghaire train station, County Dublin, on 12 June 1968. About a dozen workmen are gathered on the line carrying spades. Railway trucks filled with debris from the tracks are on the right of shot. A sign reading "5MPH TO PIER" can be seen on the left of shot; this turn led to Carlisle Pier where trains deposited and collected mailboat passengers. This access to the pier was closed off when DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) works were carried out in the early 1980s.
This was one of a series of stills taken for RTÉ Television's religious programme 'Outlook'. This was a brief programme, lasting five minutes or so, broadcast just before transmission ended for the night. A number of different priests/clergymen introduced the programme.
