Higgins, Michael D (1941 - )
RTÉ's Director of Television Cathal Goan (left) with then Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht Michael D Higgins, at the site of Teilifís na Gaeilge's (now TG4) headquarters in Connemara, January 1996. Higgins was there to turn the sod on the spot where construction work on the building was due to begin. Both men are standing behind a stone wall. A brief article on this ceremony was featured in the RTÉ staff magazine 'Access' of 7 March 1996.
TG4's headquarters are located in Baile na hAbhann in the Connemara Gaeltacht, County Galway. Teilifís na Gaeilge was officially launched on 31 October 1996; Cathal Goan was the station's first Chief Executive (or Ceannasaí) from 1994 to 2000.
