The team representing Ireland at the 2003 Special Olympics, enter Dublin's Croke Park to attend the opening ceremony on 21 June. Tyrone Productions made this programme for RTÉ Television - the programme copyright is owned by Tyrone. It was the first time the Special Olympics, in which athletes suffering from learning disabilities compete against one another, was held outside of America. 7,000 athletes from 160 countries took part over the course of ten days. RTÉ Radio also broadcast live coverage of the opening ceremony. The RTÉ Guide published a 12-page feature on the Special Olympics in its edition of 13 June 2003.
