Description |
An interior view of St Michan's Church of Ireland, on Church Street, Dublin city, in March 1973. The organ can be seen in the background; the organ case surrounding it dates from the 1720s. St Michan's dates from 1685-86 and was built on the site of an earlier structure founded by the Danes in 1095. The church is famous for its collection of mummified bodies stored in the vaults. Many of the leaders of the 1798 Rebellion are buried in the vaults and the surrounding graveyard. This shot was taken for use in, or publicising of, the RTÉ Television magazine-style current affairs programme 'Tangents'. A broadcast date for the show that featured an item on St Michan's has not been ascertained. |
