Description | The launch of RTÉ Radio 1's 'The Tinakilly Senate' in November 1993. From left to right; Hilda Tweedy (founder member of the Irish Housewives' Association), RTÉ Director-General Joe Barry, RTÉ Radio producer John Quinn, and Máire Mullarney. This fourteen-part series featured 13 elderly people who met in Tinakilly House in Rathnew, County Wicklow, in October 1993. The first programme was broadcast on 15 November 1993. The programme was made to mark the European Year of Older People. The RTÉ Guide published a brief article on the series in its radio preview column on 12 November 1993; RTÉ's staff magazine 'Access' also published an article about it on 25 November 1993. | |
