|Caption||Visually impaired man weaving a basket (1971)|
Full-length portrait shot of a visually impaired man weaving a basket, in Rathmines workshop for the blind in Dublin, on 15 September 1971. He is seated on a low stool close to the floor as he works. The basket is quite large; several very long reeds are sticking from the top of it. The Rathmines workshop was located in the old Mackintosh chocolate factory. It was moved to Goldenbridge in 1989.
This still was taken for use in, or publicising of, an RTE television documentary on the blind entitled 'When I Waken, the Darkness is There', broadcast as part of the 'Report' series on 21 October 1971. Patrick Gallagher was the presenter and John Williams the producer of the programme. Gallagher also wrote an article on the programme for the RTE Guide of 15 October 1971; this still was one of several from this shoot used to illustrate that article.
