A view of University College Dublin student protesters, making their way to a demonstration against the British government at its embassy in Merrion Square, on 31 January 1972. This protest was in reaction to Bloody Sunday which had happened the previous day in Derry; thirteen civil rights marchers had been shot dead by British soldiers. The protesters are walking through Donnybrook village; one male student is carrying a handwritten placard which reads "British murderers out". Old Wesley rugby ground can be seen in the left background.
The British embassy was eventually destroyed by fire on 2 February 1972 following a series of protests.
