Description   Broadcaster Gay Byrne (left) interviews rock singer Bob Geldof, on RTÉ Television's 'The Late Late Show', which was broadcast from Goff's in County Kildare on 13 March 1982. Geldof performed on the show with his band The Boomtown Rats. The show was broadcast from Kildare as the RTÉ studio in Donnybrook was being used for that year's National Song Contest.

Bob Geldof organised Live Aid in 1985, a huge charity concert broadcast live from London and Philadelphia, which raised £40 million for Ethiopian famine relief. Geldof received an honorary knighthood for his humanitarian work from Queen Elizabeth and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
