Kennedy, John F (1917 - 1963)
US President John F Kennedy travelling through Dublin's O'Connell Street in an open-topped car, on the first day of his four-day visit to Ireland on 26 June 1963. Several other cars are following while motorcycles are leading the motorcade. A lorry carrying a camera crew can be seen on the right. Crowds of onlookers are lining the street, many waving American flags. More people are looking on from the windows of the building on Findlater's Corner, seen in the background. A sign for 'Kathy's Hair Stylist' is also visible. Cavendish Row can be seen in the background.
Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television) provided extensive coverage of the President's visit; a feature on the coverage appeared in the RTV Guide of 21 June 1963. Kennedy was assassinated just five months after this picture was taken.
