A view of Lincoln Place, Dublin city, in November 1972. RTÉ Television broadcast a programme on violin maker/repairer Willie Hofmann's shop, located at number 16, as part of the series 'The Shape of Our Lives' on 12 April 1973. The buildings in this shot were scheduled for redvelopment, necessitating the business's removal to Hofmann's home, at the time filming took place. The Turkish Baths building can be seen beside Hofmann's on the left (15 and 15a); the words 'The Reliance Bearing & Gear Co Ltd' can just be seen above the windows, but the premises was vacant at the time this photograph was taken.
'The Shape of Our Lives' was a seven-part series on the world of design. The programme on Willie Hofmann was the first in the series; the RTÉ Guide previewed it on 6 April 1973. William Hofmann was the son of German violin maker Georg William Hofmann; he took over the business from his father in 1963.
