MacIntyre, Thomas (1931 - 2019)
Irish poet and playwright Tom MacIntyre, photographed for the RTÉ Guide in June/July 1967. He is sitting by a window with an open book on his lap. MacIntyre's work featured on an episode in the RTÉ Television arts series, 'Markings', broadcast on 8 August 1967. 'Markings' featured a number of Irish actors and actresses reading works by Irish writers. A still from this shoot was published in the Guide on 4 August 1967, accompanying programme listings for 8 August 1967.
Tom MacIntyre wrote in Irish and English. His plays included 'The Great Hunger' (1983), 'Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire' (1998) and his version of 'The Midnight Court' (1999). His books of poetry include 'Fleur-du-Lit' (1990) and 'Silenus ns gCat', which won the Oireachtas Prize for poetry in 2000. He was a member of Aosdána, the publicly funded body for the honouring of Ireland's writers and artists.
