Republican Ruairí Ó Brádaigh addresses the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis on 24 October 1971. RTÉ Television broadcast coverage of this Ard Fheis on News bulletins, as well as on the current affairs programmes 'Féach' and '7 Days'. Ruairí Ó Brádaigh was IRA chief-of-staff between 1958-9 and 1961-2. He was elected a Sinn Féin TD for Longford-Westmeath in 1957. Following the republican split in 1970 he became the first president of Provisional Sinn Féin.
