Uilleann pipes makers Moss Kennedy (foreground) and his son Alphonsis (Alf), at work in Cork in May 1974. This shot was taken during the filming of 'Hives of Honeyed Sound', RTÉ Television's entry in the 1974 Golden Harp competition. It was first broadcast on 4 June 1974 with the RTÉ Guide publishing a preview on 31 May 1974. The aim of the Golden Harp Festival was to promote international exchanges of folk music and folklore programmes and to encourage interest in traditional cultures among the nations represented through the associated competition. It was organised under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union. |
